Rochester Area Sees First COVID-19 Death in About 4 Months

While the Minnesota Department of Health did not report any additional coronavirus-related deaths today, Olmsted County recently experienced its first COVID-19 death since late last year.
Olmsted County Public Health says the death involved a Hispanic woman in her late 50s who lived in a private residence and died after she was hospitalized late last month. It was the 98th coronavirus-related death in Olmsted County since the beginning of the pandemic.
Prior to her death, Olmsted County had not experienced a COVID-19 death in about four months. Officials noted a death was reported last month, but it actually occurred back in December.

John Adams Middle School announced Friday that it would move its eighth grade class to distance learning for two weeks due to an increase in COVID-related absences.
Rochester Public SchoolsCommunications Director Heather Nessler was unable to quantify what percentage of the eighth-grade class was in quarantine or ill. But, she said it was large enough to justify the decision.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - A Med City school will help test new technology designed to detect the presence of COVID-19 and Influenza in the air.
Rochester Public Schools will work Thermo Fisher Scientific to install its new AerosolSense Sampler devices in five classrooms within one of the district s schools. The effort is part of a pilot study in which Mayo Clinic and Olmsted County Public Health will also be involved.
