(12/30/2020)   In the wake of a judge’s ruling that chastised the Winona County Board’s handling of committee appointments, the same County Board is gearing up to make new appointments to committees that handle important and sometimes controversial land-use decisions. On January 5, the County Board is slated to vote on who to appoint to the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment (BOA) and who should be the next chair of the County Board. The chairship matters because the chair alone appoints Planning Commission members, while the full board appoints BOA members. Both bodies are called on to make important decisions that affect the environment, the economy, agriculture, and lives of local residents. These appointments are sometimes contentious, as environmentalists and property-rights supporters jockey for control of the committees. The man was charged with felony stalking and misdemeanor counts of violating a restraining order. 7:25 am, Dec. 29, 2020 × Michael Vincent Erickson A Rochester man was charged with felony stalking after a woman found a tracking device in her vehicle. Michael Vincent Erickson, 43, was charged Monday morning in Olmsted County District Court with felony stalking and two misdemeanor counts of violating a restraining order. Judge Christina Stevens ordered Erickson released on conditions that he not enter the alleged victim s residence and that he not have contact with her. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 7. Olmsted County Sheriff s Capt. Scott Behrns said a 43-year-old Marion Township woman reported to deputies about 7 p.m. Saturday that a man, identified as Erickson, has been repeatedly sending her emails in violation of a restraining order.

Jeremy Bobo, 43, may face charges of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, driving after suspension and fourth-degree DWI. He has not been formally charged in Olmsted County District Court. When Bobo was located in the stolen vehicle, he was suffering an apparent medical issue and was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys for treatment, according to Olmsted County Sheriff s Capt. Scott Behrns.

The Olmsted County District Court system is facing a large backlog of jury trials and because of Covid safety protocols, only one can be held at a time in the existing space. The temporary court space will be located in the building’s second-floor area, which was never built out.
