Oklahoma County commissioners voted to approve the sheriff s office s request to contract for body cameras as part of Sheriff Tommie Johnson III s commitment to transparency.The Oklahoma County Sheriff s Office will get 40 body cameras to start and will outfit deputies who have direct contact with the public. The board of commissioners voted unanimously to fulfill Johnson s campaign promise. That s what we re getting to with these body cams. We re giving the truth, accountability not only for the deputies but for the communities, as well, having a non-biased piece of evidentiary value that we can use going forward, Johnson said.The department signed a deal for 40 body cameras that will cost more than $70,000 a year.
