Police Arrest Armed Suspect Accused Of Staging Standoff At OKC Nail Salon Following Chase

An armed suspect is in custody after authorities surrounded a business Thursday in Oklahoma City, police said. Police arrived on the scene of a nail salon located near Northeast 23rd Street and North Kelley Avenue. According to the report, multiple agencies were involved in a police chase with the suspect that lasted approximately 25 minutes. The Oklahoma City Police Department’s TAC team responded to the scene. OCPD, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted the Midwest City Police Department with the incident. The suspect has not yet been identified.

By: Storme Jones OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma County Sheriff s Office will soon be getting body cameras after Oklahoma County Commissioners approved a more than $70,000 contract. Sheriff Tommie Johnson III said bringing cameras to the department was simply keeping a campaign promise. County commissioners unanimously approved the request and applauded the sheriff for getting it done. “Promises made, promises kept,” Commissioner Kevin Calvey said. “This is something the sheriff promised in his campaign, and I was always happy to see people that ran on something and actually worked on getting it done,” Commissioner Brian Maughan said. “And the fact that he’s got it done in his first six months in office, I think it’s quite an achievement.”

Oklahoma County commissioners voted to approve the sheriff s office s request to contract for body cameras as part of Sheriff Tommie Johnson III s commitment to transparency.The Oklahoma County Sheriff s Office will get 40 body cameras to start and will outfit deputies who have direct contact with the public. The board of commissioners voted unanimously to fulfill Johnson s campaign promise. That s what we re getting to with these body cams. We re giving the truth, accountability not only for the deputies but for the communities, as well, having a non-biased piece of evidentiary value that we can use going forward, Johnson said.The department signed a deal for 40 body cameras that will cost more than $70,000 a year. The body cameras will utilize the cloud, so we won t have to maintain service, Johnson said. This first year, the cameras will cost taxpayers nothing.
