In 79 A.D., the volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted, covering the seaside resort town and the neighboring city of Herculaneum in devastating layers of lava, ash and rock.
But under the ruin, an unexpected upside was buried.
“The eruption preserved Roman luxury villas and homes until excavations began in the 1700s. These excavations unearthed extensive and richly colored frescoes painted on the walls of homes and public buildings throughout the cities, said Oklahoma City Museum of Art President and CEO Michael J. Anderson in an email.

No matter the weather at this year s Festival of the Arts, conditions are as exquisitely cloudy as always in David Holland s familiar booth at the base of the Civic Center s front steps. I kind of stepped up my game a little bit as far as the display goes. I m showing a little bit less work, but . it looks more like a kind of gallery setting instead of a booth setting, Holland said. I really like this is all my newest work. So, I m really excited about what I m showing, and there s one really big piece that s kind of a show-stopper. .
