OAKLAND COUNTY, MI An Oakland County business has been ordered to pay the state $2,000 and provide refunds to customers after Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said her office discovered the business was price-gouging by selling face coverings for nearly $20 apiece.
SmokeHouse Distribution in Commerce Township has been ordered to make a one-time $2,000 payment to Nessel s office to cover investigation costs while also assuring that it will not sell or advertise face masks for medical or COVID-19 protection purposes, according to a news release issued Monday.

FERNDALE A Ferndale man who previously was charged for allegedly recording women undressing in secret now faces additional charges of allegedly possessing child pornography.
Tyler Tierney was arraigned Dec. 14 in the 43rd District Court on five new charges related to his current case, which had been bound over to the Oakland County Circuit Court. He was arraigned on four counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity and one count of using a computer to commit a crime.
Tierney originally was arrested in November on five counts of surveilling an unclothed person, each a five-year felony. The crimes allegedly took place at a Ferndale home in July. He is accused of secretly recording five different women undressing in the home.

Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office recently signed an agreement with Smokehouse Distribution, an Oakland County business in Commerce Township that allegedly violated the Michigan Consumer Protection Act (MCPA) by engaging in practices like price-gouging.
