FERNDALE/ROYAL OAK An armed standoff between a 47-year-old Ferndale man and local authorities ended nonviolently after several hours.
The incident began at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 10 when officers from the Ferndale Police Department went to a home in Royal Oak in the 3300 block of Cummings Avenue to interview the man because he was a suspect in a criminal sexual conduct case.
Ferndale Police Community Engagement Officer Jill Mahlmeister stated that officers were unable to contact the man when they arrived at the home.
Methamphetamine and heroin were recovered in a narcotics raid at an Lake Orion-area motel this week.
However, the 29-year-old Pontiac man arrested has seen his criminal problems heightened after fighting investigating deputies for their guns, twice struggling to disarm a police officer.
For Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, who regularly shares the stories and writes to families of fallen officers around the country, the brief but dangerous struggle was a reminder of the death of a 28-year-old officer killed in Oak Park in 2008, days after Christmas.

The Oakland County Sheriff s Office reported that deputies and officers from the Narcotics Enforcement Team were at the Red Roof Inn on Lapeer Road in Orion Township on Tuesday to execute a search warrant in an ongoing investigation.
The woman in the reported relationship was a victim of Ian Elliott, a Central Michigan University student, who had been charged in connection to a sexual assault case involving two women in 2016. He’d already been sentenced to a year in prison when news of the relationship broke.
After the revelation, the attorney general’s office offered Elliott a lower charge in the case. He pleaded no contest to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, court records show.
Becker, on Thursday, declined to give details on the two charges against Kolodziej, and said information on future court dates in Isabella County would come out at a later time.
