Utica police: Domestic incident leads to handgun arrest Staff reports A 39-year-old Utica man has been charged for possessing a handgun following a domestic violence incident, according to the Utica Police Department. Police were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. Friday to a home on Richardson Avenue in Utica for reports of a domestic incident involving a man with a handgun. Police could hear yelling inside and were able to contact a woman who said her boyfriend threatened to shoot her during an argument, police said. The suspect, Ezra McClain, had gone into the basement but re-entered the back of the home where he encountered police. He fled out a back door but was stopped a short distance away, police said. In the basement, police found a loaded 9 mm handgun and two extended magazines.

LOWVILLE — A village resident was charged Tuesday by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office with raping a child. Daryl R. Spencer, 38, was charged with felony second-degree rape, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Spencer is accused of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl beginning in February 2019, the release said. A sheriff’s office investigator assigned to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, Nicholas Dean, started investigating the accusation on Dec. 23. Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Ryan Lehman, who is attached to the Jefferson-Lewis Child Advocacy Center, was contacted by the Oneida team to help with the case and confirmed that although the alleged crimes took place in Oneida County, the victim is also a local resident.

WKTV reports Craig A. Jackson, 36, of Utica, surrendered to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday after seeing himself in media on the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office 2021 Top Ten Most Wanted list. According to the Observer-Dispatch, Jackson had been wanted since September 2020 on a charge of felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Deputies said Jackson consulted with his attorney and made arrangements with the sheriff’s office in Oriskany, N.Y., before turning himself in Tuesday morning. He was arraigned virtually in Oneida County Court via Skype and released later Tuesday.
