NY restaurant workers, Uber drivers can get Covid-19 vaccine, even if county hasn’t opted in
Updated Feb 14, 2021;
Syracuse, N.Y. Restaurant workers, restaurant delivery workers and for-hire drivers for companies like Uber and Lyft can make appointments for Covid-19 vaccine at New York-run sites.
Early this month, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that county leaders could decide whether to let these workers eligible for the vaccine.
So far, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon has held off on offering the vaccine to restaurant workers and taxi drivers, saying he wants more vulnerable people to get the vaccine first.
But the state is offering appointments to these workers at 13 New York-run vaccine locations through its Am I Eligible website. That includes appointments at the New York State Fairgrounds.
Washington – President Joe Biden’s coronavirus relief plan would send $206 million in aid to Syracuse and Onondaga County to help bail out the cash-strapped governments, according to a bill approved Friday by a House committee. Syracuse would receive $116 million directly from the federal government, according to aid estimates made public Friday afternoon by the House Committee on Oversight .

Pompey, N.Y. Chefs from 10 local restaurants competed in a chili cookoff Saturday afternoon to raise money for restaurants that were forced to close last fall because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The sold-out Chillin In ‘Cuse Together raised $14,400 in ticket sales that will benefit restaurants that were in a designated Orange Zone.
No two chilis were alike, but they were all creative. One pot was loaded with grass-fed ground beef, another highlighted braised pork. Some had beans, some didn’t. Some were spicy, some were sweet.
