Flags Lowered to Half-Staff for Sailor Martin Young of Hawesville

Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags lowered to half-staff at all state buildings and encourages the same for all individuals, businesses, organizations, and government agencies. From sunrise to sunset on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 flags will be lowered in honor of Fireman Young on the day of his interment.
Young was just 21 years old when he was killed in the attack on December 7th, 1941. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those that loved him. Thank you for serving our country and protecting our freedoms. #hero

Who remembers the fruit-flavored sparkly Clearly Canadian drinks that rolled onto the scene in the 90s? These things were iconic and suddenly disappeared. Well, WE FOUND THEM!
Angel here and one of my absolute favorite treats at the convenience store when I was a kid was a Clearly Canadian. I would walk in with my friends and make a B-line for the store cooler. The sound of the bottles as they clanked together when you picked and pulled the perfect flavor is still so vivid in my mind.
My favorite was probably the Orchard Peach followed by a close second of the Mountain Blackberry. I always felt so ritzy when I drank it. Like I was suddenly royalty or something.
Paint The Town Purple Campaign To Honor Erica Owen in Owensboro
It has been almost three years since the tragic loss of Erica Owen to domestic violence. Saturday her friends and family invite the community to Paint the town Purple .
If you do not personally know Erica you may recognize her name from the news when her life was tragically ended in the summer of 2018.
Those close to her choose to remember the beautiful and infectious light she brought to the world. Since the loss of Erica, her family and friends have come together to create a legacy in her name that creates a huge awareness of domestic violence and why it should not be tolerated.

Josh and Devin Cook stopped by the radio station earlier this week with a special note (shown below) and a mission. With the note was four $25 gift cards to Texas Roadhouse. The mission was to bless nurses during National Nurses Week in honor of Sara Vance. Josh said that they wanted to remain anonymous (I scratched their name off the note). But, you know that I wouldn t allow that to happen! I convinced them, reluctantly to allow me to reveal their names. I thank them because kindness by others can go a long way! Owensboro has a LOT of great restaurants a lot of restaurants, period. In fact, I seem to remember SEVERAL years ago like, back in the 80s when we had so many restaurants per capita that we were on a top ten list or something.
I know for a fact Bowling Green was ranked second at that time; I had a lot of friends on the College Heights Herald and they had access to that info. No Internet back in the dark ages, you ll recall.
But despite the number of eateries in our city, there are still quite a few chains national or regional well represented in Evansville but not here.
