We re approaching the first anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic really kicking into high gear. Hard to believe it s been 12 months. Remember when last March felt seven years?
We were thrust into a whole new world, only because none of us had ever experienced anything like it before. And anyone who HAD didn t remember because they were infants. I m talking, of course, about the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. And yes, there were a very few scattered throughout the country and the world who were there for it and here for this one.
The streets were quiet. The stores were closed. At the beginning, last year, it really did look like another post-apocalyptic thriller about to unfold at your local multiplex. Except none of us was going for popcorn.
Owensboro is known for loving its community well. The Overflow Cafe located inside Don Moore 54 is the epitome of Community Service and this week they celebrate 10 years.
Angel here and I had the pleasure of hanging out at the Overflow with Susan the manager on Thursday to commemorate a big milestone. Ten years of coffee, conversation, smoothies, smiles, food, and fellowship.
If you have never had the opportunity to visit you re missing out. Honestly, I love all they serve but I don t go in there for that. I love the mission and the atmosphere. It feels like home.
Their mission is to give back. Since they opened in 2011, they have given over $100,000 to local non-profits in our community specifically the homeless community.

Fundraisers Benefit Family, Celebrates Life of Kenny Horn
Chances are if you called WaxWorks to order movies, or the customer service line at Independence Bank throughout the years, you ve come in contact with Kenny Horn. He loved his family, his friends, the outdoors, and great 70s music. Kenny passed away at the age of 57 on Friday, leaving a community devastated. As tributes pour in, lets remember Kenny, and support those that he left behind.

How to best describe Kenny? Well, this really isn t all that hard. I worked with Kenny for close to 20 years at WaxWorks, and the one thing that I remember most is that he s really funny. He s a carefree guy, and I truly don t remember ever hearing him say a cross word about anyone. His life lit up the most after he met Maureen, his wife. Of course, the best was still yet to come. Exciting news from the Wendell Foster Center in Owensboro! The plans are set for the 2021 Wendell Foster Half Marathon, which will be held Saturday, November 13th and registration is officially underway as of March 1st. In fact, if you register in the month of March, you can take advantage of an Early Bird rate.
