Growing up, our vacations alternated between Florida and New Mexico, where many members of my mom s side of the family STILL live.
Most, in fact, lived in a town called Silver City, about the size of Tell City. I bet I went there five times before I ever knew what they meant when they referred to Elephant Butte.
Other references over the course of my visit meant to nothing to me until I was visiting as an older teen and young adult and finally got it.
But that s my point. Every city, town, and village has those people, places, things, and ideas that make them unique. And Owensboro is no different.
