On 3-16-2021 at approximately 11:51 PM, the Shelby Police Department was requested to do a welfare check on a potentially armed and suicidal individual at the west end of Seneca Drive. As officers approached by vehicle, a male standing near the vehicle fired a rifle. Officers retreated and established a perimeter with the assistance of other agencies. Officers repeatedly attempted dialogue with the individual, who responded by firing additional shots. At approximately 12:52 AM, the individual pointed the rifle at officers, and 2 Shelby officers fired at the individual. It was determined that the individual was struck by the officer’s gunfire, and he was ordered to move away from his weapon. Officers assembled a four-man team and approached the individual, secured the weapon and provided first aid. Shelby Fire and Superior Ambulance were staged on location and immediately arrived to provide treatment. The individual was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital.

SHELBY, Ohio Shelby police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating after a man pointed a rifle at police Tuesday night in Richland County.
Officers said this happened around 11:51 p.m. when the police department requested a welfare check on Seneca Drive.
Once officers arrived, they found a man standing near a vehicle. He fired a rifle.
Authorities then backed away and tried to talk the man down but the man fired more shots. That s when police said he pointed a rifle at them and officers fired shots.

SHELBY, Ohio (AP) Police responding to a request for a welfare check shot a man early Wednesday after they said he opened fire on them, authorities said.
Officers were called to the scene in Richland County late Tuesday night and found the man standing near a vehicle and holding a rifle, police said. The officers backed away and tried talking to the man when he pointed the weapon at them, police said.
After about an hour, police said the man shot at officers and they returned fire.
The man was treated at the scene by emergency responders and he was taken to a hospital. His condition was not known.

SHELBY, Ohio (WOIO) - Officers from the Shelby Police Department shot a man who pointed a rifle at them during a welfare check late Tuesday night, the Chief of Police said.
The man was taken to the hospital after he was shot; police haven’t said anything about his condition.
According to police, officers conducted a welfare check on a potentially armed and suicidal man at the west end of Seneca Drive.
YOUNGSTOWN Prosecutors turned over about 300 pages of documents related to DNA, four CDs and other evidence to Brian Donlow Jr. on Tuesday for him to review in his aggravated murder case.
Donlow, 26, is representing himself in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court against charges that he and two other men shot Christopher Jackson Jr., 21, of Warren to death Nov. 18, 2018.
Donlow is scheduled to have a trial without a jury before Judge Anthony D’Apolito starting April 27. His co-defendants are set for trial Aug. 2.
Jackson was found dead in a running car at Bennington and Stewart avenues on the East Side. Another man with Jackson was seriously wounded but lived.
