Video shows guards restraining Ohio jail inmate before death

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) The FBI, a special prosecutor and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate the death of a jail inmate who fell unconscious during a struggle with guards and after being shocked with a stun gun in September 2019, according to media reports.
Alexander Rios, 28, died at a hospital eight days after the confrontation at the Richland County jail in central Ohio. A video of the confrontation was included in a report last month by the Mansfield News Journal.

The video begins with a guard telling Rios to step down from from a partition inside his cell and warning he would be placed in a restraint chair for his own safety. Guards rush in when he refuses. Rios then runs from the cell and is quickly tackled. Five guards pile on him as a woman not seen in the video says, “tase him.”

(Cincinnati, OH) - An FBI-led task force that investigates online criminal networks is warning individuals of emerging scams targeting area residents.
The Southern Ohio Digital Organized Crime Group says criminal actors are engaging in romance scams, inheritance scams, and frauds purporting to help “those in need.” The fraudsters are asking victims to send money via wire transfers, prepaid debit and gift cards, and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
According to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), 284 residents in central and southern Ohio lost over $3.5 million in 2020 as a result of romance fraud and confidence scams.
“The FBI has seen an increase in the number of frauds and the amount of money lost over recent months,” says FBI Cincinnati Special Agent in Charge Chris Hoffman. “We want to help prevent these types of scams while working to investigate and prosecute those who are committing faud and stealing the hard-earned saving
Gahanna police release identity of deceased Brookhill Drive woman, say suspect shot self

The Gahanna Division of Police has identified 47-year-old Linda Purdy as the woman who apparently died from a gunshot wound at 131 Brookhill Drive on Feb. 4.
Approximately 9:02 p.m. Feb 4, the Gahanna Division of Police responded to a call at the residence on a report of an alleged stabbing.
Police found Purdy, who was dead, in a recliner chair in the front living room with head injuries, reports said.
On Feb. 5, Gahanna police reported that she had died from an apparent gunshot wound and, pending an official determination on the cause of death from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, the case is being investigated as a homicide.
