Free furniture pickup turns deadly in Ocean County

MANCHESTER A homeowner helping a man take furniture that he had put out on the curb was struck and killed Tuesday afternoon when the man backed over him before leaving the scene, officials said.
Jack Gotfried, 69, who lived on Yorktowne Parkway in the Crestwood Village, was helping Kevin Noonan, 62, load the furniture onto Noonan s vehicle around 3:45 p.m.
Noonan got in his car, quickly backed up and pinned Gotfried against a truck, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. Noonan then left, leaving Gotfried in the street, Billhimer said.

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. A man who was giving away some furniture was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver who came to his house to pick it up, authorities said.
The accident in Manchester occurred around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, when 62-year-old township resident Kevin Noonan arrived at the home of 69-year-old Jack Gotfried.
Noonan struck Gotfried as he backed up his car at a high rate of speed, pinning Gotfried between the rear of the vehicle and a truck parked in front of the house, prosecutors said. Noonan then drove away, leaving Gotfried lying in the road with severe injuries to his lower body.

On Tuesday, 69-year-old Manchester Township resident Jack Gotfried was killed by a man who came by his house to pick up some furniture Gotfried had listed for free. The man, who was identified as 62-year-old township resident Kevin Noonan, has since been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, according to NJ.com.
The bizarre nature of the hit-and-run has investigators speculating that Noonan was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. His blood was drawn for testing.
