$45 million contract awarded for Camp Blaz medical and dental clinic

1 Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Pacific awarded a $45 million firm-fixed price contract May 10 to Core Tech-HDCC-Kajima, LLC, of Tamuning, Guam, for the construction of a Medical and Dental Clinic at Marine Corps Base Guam. The contract supports the Defense Policy Review Initiative and is funded by the Government of Japan as part of the International Agreement between the United States and Japan. “This state of the art Medical and Dental Facility is located at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz and will be operational in time to support the Force Flow of Marines from Okinawa to Guam,” said NAVFAC Pacific Guam Program Management Office Director Will Boudra.

Camp Blaz, near Andersen Air Force Base, was commissioned in September as the first new Marine installation since Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany opened in Georgia on March 1, 1952. Its new leader, Col. Christopher Bopp, took command Friday from Col. Bradley Magrath at the Camp Blaz Aviation Maintenance Hangar, the Marines said in a statement posted Saturday on Facebook. Magarth oversaw the transition of forces from Marine Corps Activity Guam to the new base, according to the Marines.

Ancient human remains found at site of new US military base in Guam prompts investigation

Fri 16 Apr 2021 17.00 EDT Last modified on Fri 16 Apr 2021 17.01 EDT A Guam senator has launched an investigation into a US military base being built on the island after ancient human remains, as well as ovens, tools and pottery from an ancient village were found at the proposed site. Senator Telena Nelson, chairman of the legislative committee on historic preservation, is launching an inquiry into the construction of US Marine Corps Camp Blaz in the village of Dededo in northern Guam. This week the committee held a community roundtable and an oversight hearing to look into the status of burial sites and human remains at Camp Blaz.
