ISLAMABAD: Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi called on Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Monday and updated him on the probe into the anchoring of a ship at Gaddani, loaded with dangerous chemicals.
The minister gave details about the investigation, carried out by a committee, especially formed by the government on reports of a ship that contained chemicals. Ali Zaidi, in a series of tweets, said he held a consultative meeting with relevant federal and Balochistan officials regarding the ship docked at Gaddani. He said the Gaddani ship-breaking yard was working under the Balochistan government; however, due to the gravityof the matter, his ministry took initiative to address the issue. Ali Zaidi said after consultations, a joint investigation committee was notified under DG Ports and Shipping to probe alleged presence of contaminated sludge on board, fix the responsibility on involved and also recommend standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Karachi: Authorities in Pakistan s Sindh province have adopted a high alert mode after the country s meteorological department issued warnings over cyclone Tauktae.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (MET) on Sunday issued the sixth consecutive alert for the cyclone, poised to affect part of the Sindh province, especially its coastal areas with heavy rainfall and gusty winds, reports Xinhua news agency. Very Severe Cyclonic Storm
According to the alert, the cyclone has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and lay centres near 15.3 degrees north latitude and 72.5 degrees east longitude, at a distance of about 1,210 km south-southeast of Karachi.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday called upon his spokespersons to highlight the government’s achievements, stressing that the government’s performance would be visible to the masses in the days to come.
He said this while chairing a meeting of the party’s spokespersons here, reports Geo News. Imran spoke to the spokespersons on several matters and directed them to promote the government’s works.
The premier said the government was taking “serious” steps to curb inflation, as he vowed the regime would not let the “satta” (gambling) mafia thrive in the country. Special Assistant on Interior and Accountability Shahzad Akbar also briefed the premier on the government’s legislation on basic commodities, while Finance Minister Hammad Azhar spoke about the economic situation.
