Northwest Territories RCMP warn of noxious substances found in drug seizure

Police in the Northwest Territories are warning people not to use illicit drugs after two noxious substances were found in drugs seized in Yellowknife.
RCMP say they seized crack cocaine, powder cocaine and tablets on Nov. 27 at a residence in the city.
A Health Canada analysis of the drugs found two toxic substances not found before in the territory.
Those substances are: Adinazolam, a type of tranquillizer that is listed under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and, 5-MeO-DBT, a psychedelic drug that is not controlled.

A 34 year-old Kirkland Lake resident has been charged with a number of offences after members of the Kirkland Lake OPP responded to a report of an alleged theft from a residence on Woods Street.
Police officials stated the investigation lead to a search warrant being executed at a residence on Baron Street. As a result one person has been arrested and charged.

Brent GUNTER, 34 years-of-age, from Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), Theft Under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC, and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

A man and a woman face a long list of charges after Provincial Police seized drugs and weapons from a Portage Avenue business in Fort Frances.
Officers and the K-9 unit searched the building Thursday and found fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, crack cocaine, hydromorphone and dilaudid.
The street value of the drugs is roughly $100,000.
In the bust OPP seized cash, imitation firearms, pellet guns, compound bows and a conducted energy weapon.
Officers also recovered stolen property related to multiple thefts previously reported.
OPP say 30 year old Thomas Atkinson of Fort Frances and 28 year old Jade Morrison of Fort Frances are both in custody awaiting a Monday court appearance.
In the agenda for Montreal s City Council on Monday, January 25, a "Non-partisan motion calling on the City of Montreal to urge the government to Canadian to decriminalize simple possession of drugs for personal use" is set to be debated.
A press release about the subject asks that the City of Montréal "undertake as quickly as possible steps to request a city-wide exemption from the Government of Canada to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act."
