So it seems that Robert Abela took considerable personal offence, at a couple of rather pointed questions he found himself facing at Wednesday’s press conference.
All together now: gee, how sad. And how unfair of those pesky independent journalists, to puncture his ego by reminding him of a few of his more recent failures as Prime Minister….
Because that’s what those questions were all about, weren’t they?
Let’s see now: one of them was: ‘Shouldn’t you apologise for having predicted a ‘return to normality’ by March (that is, today: when Malta’s daily caseload comes in as the highest in Europe)?’

The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM) has condemned recent threats and online insults showered on journalists in the wake of a tense press conference with the Prime Minister and Superintendent of Public Health about the COVID-19 situation, appealing to the authorities to reaffirm its support of journalists and increase public awareness on the role of the media in a democratic society.
It said that journalists had been subjected to hate speech and threats on social media after the press conference on March 4.
BREAKING: New COVID-19 Measures Announced, Effective from Tomorrow to the 11th April
The Prime Minister, together with the Deputy Prime Minister and the Superintendent of Public Health addressed a press conference, during which new COVID-19 measures were announced.
In brief, the measures, which come into force as from tomorrow to the 11th April, are the following:
Restaurants/Kiosks and Snack Bars will offer only takeaway services
Resturants in Hotels and Guest Houses will only be available for residents
Nightclubs, Bars and Bandclubs will remain closed
A €6,000 fine applies in case any of the above regulations are not adhered to
Mass-events will still be prohibited, apart from weddings and religious functions
Restaurants and cafes are being ordered to close until April 11, while private family gatherings are being limited amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, Robert Abela
