MASSILLON – City Schools Superintendent Paul Salvino told board members Wednesday the district is preparing for an in-person school year. We are coming back to school, he said. We are proud and happy to do so.
District leaders are finalizing their plans for the new school year, which does not include virtual learning.
Officials have been in contact with the Educational Service Center and the Massillon Health Department on the latest updates in regard to COVID-19, Salvino said.
Under federal mandates, all students will be required to wear a mask while riding on district school buses through at least Sept. 13, Salvino said.
The Massillon Education Association provided 15 "student-centered" ways to better use the more than $5 million COVID relief funding the district received.

MASSILLON, Ohio During the pandemic, a lot of school educators, faculty and staff had to pivot due to COVID-19. Now, the Massillon Education Association says they aren’t happy that some of those COVID Cares Act funds are going directly into the pockets of administrators.
The Massillon City School Board approved paying dozens of administrators an extra ten days pay as a bonus for their work during the pandemic. The education association is questioning why that money isn’t being spent directly on students. The $150,000 is slated to come from ESSER, Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief, funding.
