OKLAHOMA CITY â An Oklahoma lawmaker abruptly resigned from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission after the governor â a fellow commissioner â signed a bill banning the teaching of critical race theory in public schools.
The dispute occurred just weeks before the centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre, which happened May 31-June 1, 1921, resulting in the deaths of perhaps 100 to 300 Black residents in Tulsaâs Greenwood District, historians say.

OSDH: 85 New COVID-19 Cases Reported, 1 More Virus-Related Death Added To State s Provisional Death Count
One more virus-related death and 85 new coronavirus cases were reported in the state since Monday, according to daily numbers released by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
A total of 450,400 Oklahomans have tested positive for COVID-19 and the provisional death count of virus-related deaths stayed at 8,337, the state health department said on Tuesday.
The seven-day rolling average for new cases reported was 194 cases
, the state health department said.
As of Wednesday, 2,721,002 total vaccine doses have been administered and 1,236,040 prime doses have been given by the state. More than 1,036,500 Oklahomans have completed both inoculations.

The Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education plans to denounce House Bill 1775 in their meeting Monday afternoon.
The controversial bill prohibiting critical race theory in schools was signed by Gov. Kevin Stitt on Friday.
The school board meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Clara Luper Center.
The board plans to take possible action on denouncing House Bill 1775.
The bill limits race and gender curriculum in secondary and post-secondary schools across the state.
Before the bill was ever signed by the governor on Friday, OKCPS Superintendent Sean McDaniel urged the governor to veto the bill.

Nine more virus-related deaths and 667 new coronavirus cases were reported in the state since Friday, according to daily numbers released by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
A total of 450,315 Oklahomans have tested positive for COVID-19 and the provisional death count of virus-related deaths stayed at 8,336, the state health department said on Monday.
The seven-day rolling average for new cases reported was 206 cases
, the state health department said.

About 178 Oklahomans are currently in acute care OSDH licensed facilities with 69 in the ICU and 12 are currently in other types of facilities due to COVID-19.
