Elaborate security arrangements made at polling stations in Andhra Pradesh
All is set for the first phase of gram panchayat elections in the State. Polling will be held at 33,069 stations in 8,263 locations on Monday.
According to the police, Section 144 will be in force at the polling stations and up to 100 metres from the centres have been declared red zones. Candidates in groups should not move in red zones and campaigning should not be done near the polling centres. Rules of the State Election Commission (SEC) should be followed strictly, said officials.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of nine Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).
It also approved the promotion of 20,347 other senior officers to their next ranks.
A statement by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, on Thursday, in Abuja, said the promotions followed a decision of the 11th Plenary of the Commission, presided over by its chairperson, Musiliu Smith.

Ani said nine Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to CPs, while three Chief Superintendents (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
“1,577 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) are promoted to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SPs) while 2,293 Assistant Superintendents of Police are promoted to DSPs.
“The commission also approved the promotion/confirmation of 7,283 unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents (ASP11) to Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP1).

KARNAL: Haryana Police on Sunday (January 10) cracked down on farmers protesting against central farm laws at a toll plaza near Karnal ahead of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar s visit to home constituency. Police used water cannons and lobbed tear gas shells at farmers who attempted to march towards Kaimla. The venue at Karnal, where Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar was to hold a panchayat was reportedly vandalised by farmers who broke through the police cordon. Farmers stormed the barricades set up at Kaimla to oppose the Kisan Mahapanchayat event by the Chief Minister, which was aimed at highlighting the benefits of the three central farm laws.
