Malaysian wins gold in virtual karate meet

A 14-YEAR-OLD karate proponent from Kedah bagged the gold in an international martial arts e-championship, Makkal Osai reported. The event hosted by the World Martial Arts Development Organisation in Sri Lanka on Jan 28 saw more than 1,000 participants from 29 countries. Gayathri Suresh, who trains under the Kedah Mawashi-geri Karate Academy, was the sole representative from Malaysia. She is also the daughter of academy founder and trainer Suresh Mariappan. The young girl was awarded a gold medal in the 13-14 age category. Teen held over slashing neighbour with machete

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the incident happened at 8.30am last Friday, when the victim was weeding near a drain. ACP Stanley said the incident was allegedly triggered when the victim asked the 15-year-old, “Whose son are you?”. “The suspect came from the garden at the side of the victim’s house, and he slashed the woman’s hand and later stabbed her neck using a machete. “The suspect did not say anything and the victim, who was in fear, screamed, ” said ACP Stanley, adding that the victim suffered injuries on her neck, right arm, fingers, chest and knees.
