FALMOUTH, Maine Donald Verger has been putting heart into his art during the pandemic.
And images of those intricate hearts made from vibrant sea glass are flowing back to schools and hospitals that have been hard hit by COVID-19 during the pandemic.
The Normal Town Council meets remotely, Monday, Feb. 15, 2021.
The Normal Town Council on Monday night heard updates about this weekend’s train derailment and fires, including that specialized equipment should arrive Tuesday to transport debris.
Also at the remote meeting, the council awarded Stark Excavating an $863,000 contract to complete a culvert project on Gregory Street; OK d spending $365,000 on a Maxwell Park update; and renewed a contract for City Manager Pam Reece.
Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner and Fire Chief Mick Humer attended the meeting to share updates on the weekend events: Early Saturday morning when 16 cars of a 100-plus car freight train derailed in Uptown; that afternoon, a fire destroyed 12 units at Sugar Creek Apartments on Linden Street. But the weekend wasn’t over: Two overturned trailers from the derailment caught fire Sunday, when a saddle tank for diesel fuel ruptured. It flared again Monday morning.

James Edward Little was born in Burlington, Vt., on March 11, 1952, to George Edward Little Jr. and Barbara Elaine Burns Little. He died peacefully on February 11, 2021, surrounded by his family, from the cancer that suddenly returned and overwhelmed his body but never dimmed his spirit.
Jim was born with a form of cerebral palsy that affected his legs and balance, but he was not defined by that disability; instead, he defined and conquered
it. He bravely endured many surgeries and long physical therapies as a child and young man. He never complained about this and at an early age was a powerful example of courage and perseverance. Jim thrived in a loving family and was blessed with fiercely loyal friends. He enjoyed countless idyllic summers at the Little camp at Starr Farm Beach, camping trips around the country, swimming at the YMCA, playing golf, and following with love and joy the lives of his siblings, nieces, nephews
