International Women s Day marks a year of COVID-19

March 4, 2021   ·   0 Comments By Paula Brown It’s a global day that celebrates the achievements of women, recognizes the state of gender equality, and calls on action for women’s rights.  This year’s International Women’s Day on March 8 is more important than ever, says Andrea Gunraj, Vice President of Public Engagement for the Canadian Women’s Foundation (CWF).   While March marks International Women’s Day, it will also mark the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic hitting Canada and the first lockdown. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic early last year, Canada has seen decades of work and progress in gender equality setback, creating what Gunraj called a “gendered pandemic.”

The farmers have consistently opposed these laws, which go against the promises and commitments made to farmers by different governments over several decades,” the statement reads.

Ownership through tax havens enables the more than 60 care homes to report losses in the UK while foreign investors make a killing in a sector subsidised by public spending. COVID-related deaths in UK care homes have exposed the need for major reforms which must include greater financial transparency to ensure that care is prioritised over profit.
