(Pocket-lint) - Google s been making some interesting, albeit small steps, in adding AR to its search experience recently, including the addition of a 3D model of Baby Yoda for viewing at leisure, and it s made another interesting play by announcing that it s going to start letting you try on makeup in AR.
With online shopping already a dominant force in recent years, 2020 has seen it explode even further as people were restricted in their ability to leave home for a casual shopping spree. While you might make a run-out for some essentials around the home, it s been more challenging than ever to shop for some luxuries.

Google search’s new online shopping feature makes buying beauty products online slightly less of a gamble. You can now virtually “try on” beauty products from Google Shopping using professional models or, if you prefer, on your own face thanks to a little augmented reality magic and your smartphone’s selfie camera.

At launch, only select products from Black Opal, Charlotte Tilbury, Estée Lauder, L’Oréal, and MAC Cosmetics are supported, but Google says it plans to include more soon. The company also hopes the new virtual try-on features will inspire more brands and expand the types of products users can preview in the app.
