The news drew a range of responses from environmental campaigners, including praise that the apparent choice means the rejection of California Air Resources Board chair Mary Nichols, who faced pushback from progressives over alleged failings to communities on the front lines of dirty industry. Other green campaigners reacted to the possible nomination with a critical eye, pointing to what they see as Regan’s “mixed record on environmental justice.”

Dec. 19 (UPI) President-elect Joe Biden announced members of his incoming administration s climate and energy team Saturday.
They include former E.P.A. chief Gina McCarthy, Biden has tapped to serve as the first-ever national climate advisor.

McCarthy will head the newly created White House Office of Domestic Climate Policy.
Biden also confirmed reports from earlier this week that he has asked Rep. Deb Haaland, D-N.M., to serve as secretary of the interior and Michael Regan, secretary of North Carolina s Department of Environmental Quality to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.
