Guernsey County commissioners recently approved funding for improvements to a county-owned lot in downtown Cambridge for the relocation of the sheriff s impound lot.
The estimated cost for new fencing, security cameras and lighting at the new location near the intersection of Wheeling Avenue and North Fourth Street is $15,000. Security and convenience come into play, said Commissioner Dave Wilson of the plan to relocate the impound lot from a rural location on Old 21 Road (County Road 35) north of Cambridge into the city.
The current lot does not have the security cameras and lighting that will be available at the new location. Access to the lot can be difficult for tow trucks bringing impounded vehicles and equipment to the rural location.
