Alexandria Police Department officer jailed on drug charges

An Alexandria Police Department officer has been arrested on drug charges, according to a release. Brian Anthony Willett, 26, was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center #1 on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a weapon with drugs and possession of drugs in a drug-free zone. He remains in jail as of Thursday afternoon with bail set at $7,500. The release stated that the department s Internal Affairs Division had been conducting an investigation into drug allegations against Willett prior to his arrest. Interim Police Chief Ronney Howard said it was unfortunate when an officer sworn to uphold the law does not, violating his oath and the public s trust.

Three Arrests Made in Liberty Arsenal Shooting

On May 7, 2021, Rapides Parish Sheriff s Office reported a shooting at Liberty Arsenal on Highway 28 in Pineville, LA, with one fatality and one victim injured. Detectives have confirmed the deceased name is David K. Paul, 52 of Pineville. The other victim remains in critical but stable condition. As of today there have been three suspects arrested since that time: Eric Wayne Dixon turned himself into RPSO, accompanied by an attorney on May 8.and was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on the warrants for first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. On May 10, Sheriff’s Detectives and Patrol Deputies were involved in a pursuit, which ended at I-49 south at the Broadway exit. Cliron Demond Price, 20 of Alexandria, was booked on accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice.

Police: Alexandria man charged in death of infant

An Alexandria man has been arrested on a first-degree murder charge in the death of an infant, according to police. The Alexandria Police Department issued a release that said Charles Otis Sneed III, 20, was arrested on the charge after the unresponsive infant was brought into a local emergency room. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center #1 just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. The investigation began on Saturday, it read. Sneed is listed with a Pineville address on Shamrock Street on the Rapides Parish Sheriff Office s jail website. On Tuesday, two contempt of court charges were filed against Sneed. No bail has been set on those charges. Bail on the homicide charge was set at $500,000.

One person arrested in Alexandria shooting on Hickory Street

One person was wounded around midnight Monday in a shooting, according to the Alexandria Police Department. The victim was shot in the 1600 block of Hickory Street. The wound was not life-threatening, reads the release. The department followed with a second release later Tuesday afternoon in which it announced the arrest of Danyell Dewayne Hunter, 38, in the case. Hunter, of the 1700 block of Hickory Street, was booked in the Rapides Parish Detention Center #1 on charges of attempted second-degree murder, possession of marijuana, synthetic cannabinoids or counterfeit drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. No bail has been set on the attempted murder and possession charges as of Tuesday afternoon. Bail on the drug paraphernalia charge was set at $500. 

GoFundMe set up for 2 sons of Donnie Cayer after hit-and-run death

A GoFundMe account has been established for the two young sons of a man killed Saturday in a hit-and-run on Horseshoe Drive. Donnie Cayer died on Saturday after being hit by a retired Louisiana State Police trooper, 60-year-old David Brett Westmoreland, who later was charged with first-offense DWI, hit and run and vehicular homicide after his arrest by the Alexandria Police Department. Cayer had been bicycling on the busy two-lane road with one of his sons on a trip to feed geese and ducks that frequent Bayou Robert and a pond that fronts the Tennyson Oaks subdivision. Donnie was a single father of two boys that he loved dearly. It is a great tragedy that the boys will grow up without their hardworking father, reads the fundraiser.
