More than 1 million viewers tuned into TVNZ 1 yesterday
for coverage of the 36th America s Cup presented by
PRADA.
The first day of racing reached 1,041,700 New
Zealanders on TVNZ 1, with 350,800 of these viewers sitting
in the channel’s key commercial demographic. The
impressive size of the audience demonstrates the nation’s
support of Emirates Team New Zealand as they embark on their
defence of the world’s oldest sporting trophy.
An
additional 147,000 live streams were logged across the
afternoon on TVNZ OnDemand, showing New Zealanders desire to
keep across all the action on the water from work, at home

in 2020 with a brand-new stand-up show,

Ben is
now newly confirmed to arrive in New Zealand to quarantine
in April, to then hit the stage in May 2021, with fourteen
new dates added to his original tour. In addition to his
previously announced shows in Auckland, Wellington and
Christchurch, Ben has added performances in Blenheim,
Nelson, Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown, Tauranga,
Hamilton, Palmerston North, New Plymouth and Napier. Ben
last performed in New Zealand in 2006, but returned to stage

Covid restrictions
lifted just in time to allow the 22nd NZ Antique &
Classic Boat Show to go ahead as a one-day event on Sunday
(March 7).
The annual show held annually at Lake
Rotoiti in the Nelson Lakes National Park usually runs over
two days, but drew a good crowd on Sunday, with close to 30
late registrations making up for those unable to travel from
Auckland.
The wooden power boat Rita took the Jens
Hansen Trophy, having been towed up from Tarras by her
owner, Michael Hayman. The 6m boat was built in Waimate,
with an open cockpit designed after boats used on Sydney

“With Covid lock-downs rearing their head again and
forcing the postponement of the Summer Series Championship
at Hampton Downs this weekend, the ramification of the delay
to the Speedworks Championship summer series will have
negative number on a number of entries already received for
both the 1 and our new 2 hour event” said David Dovey,
President of the NIERDC organising club. Looking at
the impact on entries for our first event, our management
committee have decided the safest course of action is to
shift round one, back into early May and begin our series at
