WORCESTER Syrian-Armenian visual artist Kevork Mourad s immersive installation Memory Gates will be on view at The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery at the College of the Holy Cross from March 4 through April 11.
Mourad has been at Holy Cross in February as an artist in residence in collaboration with the college’s Arts Transcending Borders program.
Using his signature style of spontaneous drawing and printmaking techniques, Mourad has been creating “Memory Gates, a work imagined as a series of doors and passageways that visitors can pass through. The work explores themes of cultural plurality and collective memory.
During Mourad’s residency, students have been invited to work alongside the artist, assisting in the execution and installation of the work as it unfolds. Known by many as the preeminent poet of Long Beach, Gerald Locklin was perhaps even more esteemed among those who knew him as Professor.
Over half a century, Locklin was a defining literary voice on the West Coast and beyond as a writer of poetry, fiction and essays, tracing an evolution from hard-drinking, bear-like bacchanalian to gray, slender, sober and ever free-spirited elder statesman of letters. Poet Charles Bukowski’s long-ago praise of him as “one of the great undiscovered talents of our time” has been eclipsed by the years: Locklin published some 150 books and thousands of poems, many in translation and studied and admired around the world.

You just give them that one injection, you don t have to sit down and schedule that second visit, and the cold chain doesn t have to be maintained, said Professor Ann Sheehy, an expert in viruses and immunology at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. Another vaccine in the mix is going to make getting everybody vaccinated that we need to be vaccinated much easier and faster.

Maura Stevens is an experienced executive chef who last month accepted the newly created position of food and nutrition services manager at Abby’s House in Worcester, joining a dedicated staff and countless volunteers who work to serve women and children who experience homelessness or who have suffered trauma and abuse.
