ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Education on Wednesday briefed President Dr Arif Alvi about the single national curriculum (SNC) being introduced at the primary level in the upcoming academic session in August this year in both public and private schools along with religious seminaries.
Sources said Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood informed the president that for the first time students of five different religions will be taught their religious text.
“For the first time, five religious minorities will be taught their religious books in schools,” said Joint Education Advisor and Head of National Curriculum Council Rafiq Tahir, who was part of the minister’s team that briefed the president on SNC.

AKIPRESS.COM - Rejecting government’s plans to take over mosques and seminaries, religious scholars in Pakistan have announced they will hold countrywide protests against the move, Dawn reported.
Religious leaders in the country have rejected the legislation passed by Pakistan Parliament to change the madrassa system and bring them under direct government control. The legislation provides that the government will have the power to audit money-trail of religious seminaries, mosques, and imambargahs. The madaris will come under the direct management of the federal government.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Senate candidates from Islamabad, federal finance minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and Fauzia Arshad, along with some other federal ministers arrived in Lahore on Saturday for their election campaign.
The Senate candidates held a meeting with Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar at the Governor House and discussed the upcoming polls, to ensure that the PTI and allied parties’ National Assembly members vote for the party candidates.
The governor assured the candidates that the PTI members would definitely vote for them. He said the PTI allies were also standing with the party candidates, hoping it would win the both Senate seats from Islamabad.
