One dead in hit and run outside Plymouth, officials say

SALEM TWP., MI - A person died in a hit and run late Friday night outside Plymouth.
Authorities responded to a traffic accident report just before midnight, Feb. 26 in the area of Pontiac Trail near Six Mile Road in Salem Township, according to the township’s fire department.
Salem Township Fire Chief Jim Rachwal told MLive the person, whose name has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Michigan State Police and the South Lyon Police Department are investigating the incident, Rachwal said.
The area of Pontiac Trail and Six Mile Road was closed at 12:02 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, according to an alert by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. The Salem Fire Department left the scene at 5:30 a.m., Rachwal said.

MINONG, According to the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office, two children were killed in a Saturday morning house fire in Minong.
Fire crews responded to a fire at 6901 Semrad Drive in the township of Minong around 4:45 a.m.
Initial reports of the incident stated that a home was on fire and two people were still in the house.
When crews arrived at the scene the single-family home was fully engulfed in flames.
After the fire was extinguished two victims, ages 10 and 13, were located both deceased.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Our hearts go out to the family and the community,” said Minong Fire Chief Jay Barrett.

200 seniors displaced as crews repair apartment complex damaged by fire

YPSILANTI TWP., MI – Two hundred Ypsilanti Township seniors were displaced from their apartments Monday afternoon when fire broke out in one unit.
Fire crews were called to National Church Residences Clark East Tower Senior Apartments, 1550 E. Clark Road, at 12:18 p.m. Feb. 15, for a reported fire in an apartment on the sixth floor of the seven-story building, according to the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, restricting it to the apartment of origin and preventing it from spreading, officials said.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remians under investigation, officials said.
