Washtenaw County law enforcement, leadership issue joint statement on conviction of Derek Chauvin Updated Apr 21, 2021; WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – Law enforcement and elected officials throughout Washtenaw County have issued a joint statement calling the conviction of Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd “a turning point for this country and Washtenaw County.” “This verdict will not bring Mr. Floyd back to his family, but it does bring some form of accountability,” the joint statement issued Wednesday reads. The statement, released April 21, was written on behalf of every law enforcement agency in Washtenaw County, as well as the Prosecutors Office, Public Defenders Office, each local municipality and U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Dearborn.

WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Three victims were scammed Monday by someone pretending to be a deputy with the Washtenaw County Sheriff s Office. According to the sheriff s office, the Ypsilanti Township residents were called by a person who used the name of a current deputy. The caller told the victims that they missed a court date and needed to send $2,000 in gift cards to avoid being arrested.

Witnesses say a pedestrian was dragged by a truck that sped away after an altercation with the driver (Washtenaw County Sheriff s Office.) An early Sunday evening incident reported to the sheriff s office began with an argument between a driver and a pedestrian. The scene happened in Ypsilanti Township, where witnesses say an altercation escalated into a hit-and-run incident. Around 5:40 p.m., deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff s Office were dispatched to the 7400 block of Warick.
