Coppinger Says Be Extremely Cautious Though COVID-19 Numbers Are Trending Down Thursday, February 11, 2021 - by Joseph Dycus County Mayor Jim Coppinger said Thursday that people still need to be “extremely cautious” even as numbers are starting to trend down. He said there are around 1,500 active cases, and hospitalizations are starting to decrease.   “We’re trending in the right direction, but this is the time to be extremely cautious so we can continue to minimize the spread in our community,” County Mayor Coppinger said. “We have testing seven and six days a week at Alstom and CEMPA. If you’re symptomatic or think you’ve been exposed, we highly recommend you get tested to exclude you from being a spreader.”

The announcement is expected to be made on a live YouTube stream by the county Health Department at 3 p.m. Currently Health Department staff has been administering an average of roughly 2,900 doses per day to serve the most susceptible in our community, but with a supply chain of vaccine strengthening and the belief that the virus onslaught may be lessening in the state, the good news is offset by the fact that on Wednesday statewide deaths with a connection  to COVID-19 have exceeded 10,000 victims.

County Officials Welcome Downturn In COVID Cases In Hamilton County Thursday, January 28, 2021 - by Joseph Dycus County Mayor Jim Coppinger - photo by Joseph Dycus Health Department Administrator Becky Barnes and County Mayor Jim Coppinger said Thursday they see a welcome trend in fewer COVID-19 cases in Hamilton County.   “Our numbers have gone down as it concerns active cases. We’re down to almost 2,000 cases, as are our hospitalization and ICU cases down,” County Mayor Coppinger said. “The testing continues and we are very active, and those numbers and the positivity rate has gone from 20 percent to around 13 percent.”   He thanked citizens who have followed precautions such as wearing masks, washing hands, and avoiding large gatherings.
