Here’s a question to those who closely follow the Congress in Kerala: When was the last time the party leadership took a decision that surprised both Congress’ political opponents and the party rank and file alike? Late last month saw a few such surprises.
On January 18, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was brought back from the pastures to lead the Congress’ campaign for the upcoming state polls. A few days later, it was announced that former Union minister and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor would be in-charge of the party’s election manifesto in the state.
DMK leaders were not invited to Rahul’s meetings (all in the western part of Tamil Nadu), and he campaigned without canvassing for the coalition. - Issue Date: Feb 15, 2021
Nadda says UDF, LDF are corrupt, non-performing
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) are two sides of the same coin and are corrupt and non-performing, BJP president J.P. Nadda has said.
Addressing a public meeting at Thekkinkadu Maidan here on Thursday to kick-start the party’s campaign for the Assembly elections, Mr. Nadda said both fronts lacked vision. The State machinery was steeped in corruption and law and order had taken a turn for the worse.
Leaders of both fronts defamed the image of the State, he said. “If one has a passion for gold, other one has an interest in solar energy. And there is a shadow of women in both cases. The Speaker has brought shame for the post.”
