CONWAY â A local woman was recently indicted by a Carroll County Superior Court Grand Jury for allegedly trying to take an officerâs gun during a melee in May.
The incident began May 4 when police were called to the Conway Post Office for a report of a suicidal woman, 31, of Conway. (The Sun is withholding the womanâs name due to concerns for her mental health.)
The grand jury returned the âtaking a firearm from a law enforcement officerâ indictment on July 16. The indictment is filed as a Class-B felony, which is punishable by 3 1/2 to seven years in prison and a $4,000 fine. The indictment means the grand jury felt there was enough evidence to bring the case to trial.
There were 55 responses to this weekâs Tele-Talk question: âShould the town be doing more to save its Revolutionary War-era buildings?â The responses were overwhelming in support of saving historic buildings.
Historic buildings are a big factor in what gives a town its character and personality. But, of course, the buildings have to be maintained and/or adapted to accommodate modern use, otherwise they lose their relevance and become endangered. It was a labor of love â and costly â to renovate the Bolduc Block and The Majestic Theatre, but Conway Village is visually and economically better off for it having been saved, and it still looks like Conway instead of Anytown, USA.
