Vets depression, social support & psychological resilience play role in later well being

 E-Mail (Boston) Veterans who experienced the combination of low depression, high social support and high psychological resilience as they left military service were most likely to report high well-being a year later. Neither demographic and military characteristics nor trauma history emerged as strong predictors of veterans well-being when considered in the context of other factors. Although most predictors were similar for women and men, depression was a stronger predictor of women s well-being. Every year, more than 200,000 U.S. service members transition out of the military. Although most military veterans can be expected to successfully navigate this transition, a substantial number of individuals struggle to adapt to post-military life.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. Joseph A. Ziemianski, 88, was called from this earth Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021. Joe was a loving husband to wife Margaret, nee Kling, for 62 years; a father to Kathleen, Martin and Suzanne; and a doting grandfather / great-grandfather of 13. Born to John and Helen in Youngstown, Joe had two brothers: twin, Jack and younger brother, Tom. He graduated from Ursuline High School and Youngstown (State) University. Joe began his engineering career with Goodyear Aerospace. In 1963, Joe was recruited by the NASA space program, where he worked until retiring in 1995. His notable achievements included working as a project engineer on the Viking mission to Mars (1975), earning an MBA (1984), winning the prestigious Collier Trophy (1987), and receiving the rank of Meritorious Executive from President Reagan (1988).
