Virginia State Police identify the driver as 51-year-old Morris A. Hairston.
Troopers responded just before 6:45 p.m. Friday to a wreck in the 2600 block of Route 58 in Henry County.
A 2003 Lincoln LS ran off the right side of the road, down an embankment and struck several trees.
Hairston was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.

At 6:43 p.m. Friday, Dec. 25, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 2600 block of Route 58.

The driver, 51-year-old Morris A. Hairston of Martinsville, was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Roanoke city manager Bob Cowell shared the following statement with 10 News regarding the weekend shooting at Valley View Mall:
“The City continues to be concerned with the increase in gun violence we have experienced in the past year. This concern has led to an enhanced law enforcement response, including realignment of certain personnel to increase the resources available to respond to violent crime. This law enforcement response has been accompanied by a non-law enforcement response as well, involving the Gun Violence Task Force, use of a Rapid Response Team, etc. These efforts are intended to offer both short- and long-term outcomes. The City’s Police Department continues to investigate the most recent shooting and seeks assistance from anyone with further information about this
Pulaski police investigate after person hit by gunfire

Pulaski, Va – The Pulaski Police department is investigating after a person was shot along 100 Washington Square on Christmas.
The victim was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police say there isn’t a threat to the public at this time.
Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to call 980-7800.

The Nutcracker brings holiday cheer to Carillion Clinic

ROANOKE, Va. – To help make the holidays a little less lonely for hospital patients, the Southwest Virginia Ballet decided to bring some holiday cheer to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The ballet company partnered with Blue Ridge PBS to stream the performance on the GetWellNetwork, the in-house patient channel.
Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital has more than 700 rooms and the performance will be available to view in each room.
The pandemic has already limited interactions with patients and halted rounds of pet therapy, therefore some nurses say this is the spirit-booster some patients need.
