Joseph Simmonds A MAN was jailed for a racially aggravated assault on a woman and stealing wine from a supermarket. Joseph Simmonds, 23, of Windsor Road, Penarth, pleaded guilty to committing the offences at the town’s Tesco store. His victim was a supermarket worker. Simmonds also admitted possession of Valium, a class C drug. The offences were committed on March 18 and when the defendant was subject to a community sentence. At Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, Simmonds was sent to prison for three months. He must pay a £128 surcharge following his release from custody.
Penarth drink driver banned for being over the limit on M4 A MAN has been banned from driving for nearly two years after he was caught more than twice the drink drive limit on the motorway. Kevin Mark Sainsbury, 50, of Elfed Avenue, Penarth, was disqualified from driving for 23 months and sentenced to a 12-month community order. He admitted the offence whilst driving in a Ford Focus on the M4 between Junctions 35 Pencoed and 34 Miskin eastbound on April 23. The defendant pleaded guilty to having 91 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

ARRAN JOHN HILLEN, aged 26 and of Amethyst Road, Christchurch, convicted of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a Mini Cooper on November 13, 2020, in Devon, who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence. Fined £660. To pay £66 surcharge and £90 costs. Driving record endorsed with six points. Dealt with at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on April 28.
