Picture: FILE The Fiji Times edition of March 27, 1978 carried a story of a 38-year-old woman who considered herself lucky to be alive after she was attacked by a shark while fishing. The woman was Ulamila Wati of Qarani Village, Gau. A helicopter from Suva made an emergency flight to Gau on a Saturday afternoon to evacuate the woman to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. Ms Wati was in the water, fishing off the beach at Qarani about 4:30pm that Saturday when the shark attacked the fish she already had in a plaited coconut leaf basket tied to her waist.
