Calhoun County Sheriff s Office Nears Fundraising Goal For New K-9 Program | CBC Online

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has announced they are closing in on their $20,000 fundraising goal for the new K-9 program as they look forward to receiving their first four-legged officer within the next week. Sheriff, Pat Riley, says they have raised more than $18,000 for the K-9 from True Canine International of McKinney, Texas. Training for the K-9 and its handler will begin the first week of May. The money raised not only goes toward the purchase of the dog, it is also used to buy the specialized equipment and gear as well as support training and ongoing program expenses for the first year. The new K-9 will be an invaluable part of the team and will help with detection in drug investigations, tracking of criminal suspects as well as lost individuals, evidence recovery, premises searches and educating youth in the communities the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office serves.
