Prostitution and drug charges filed against Calhoun County spa owner

CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A West Bloomfield man has been charged following a nearly three year investigation into alleged prostitution and drug activity at a pair of spas in Calhoun County. Sheriff Steve Hinkley announced the charges against Stephen Hagerman who is the owner of Avenue Spa on East Michigan Avenue in Battle Creek as well as Highway Spa on Partello Road in Marengo Township which were the focus of the investigation. Hinkley says the investigation began in 2018 after tips of prostitution at these locations. The investigation included surveillance and interviews. Simultaneous raids at the properties took place in 2019 where phones and electronics were seized.

Search Underway For Battle Creek Woman Missing Since 2005 Get our free mobile app In a news release, Calhoun County Sheriff Steve Hinkley said that his office is searching today, March 31, on 6 1/2 Mile in Newton Township. This is a physical search, including the use of a cadaver dog, based on leads in an investigation regarding Battle Creek resident Ashley Parlier who went missing in 2005. Ashley lived with her parents in the 400 block of North Bedford Road in Battle Creek. It was also the location where Ashley was last seen. Detectives were drawn to this area due to recent leads in the investigation, and investigators recently traveled to California, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, as well, to pursue leads. The Sheriff says that a person of interest has been identified in this crime, but that person s name will not be released at this time.

Police were searching for the body of Ashely Parlier who was last seen in Battle Creek in June 2005, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said. A cadaver dog assisted with the search in a wooded area of 6 ½ Mile Road in Newton Township. Investigators were on scene Wednesday, March 31, from 8 a.m. until after 4 p.m., Calhoun County Communications Manager Lucy Blair said. The area was also searched for a day during the week of March 22. It’s unclear if they will search there in the future, Blair said.
