COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– An Upstate man is suing the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office as well as two individual deputies after he says a deputy slammed his head in a patrol car door. Attorneys for Stephon Hopkins announced the lawsuit Wednesday afternoon.
In April 2019, after Hopkins was arrested for interfering with an investigation and resisting arrest.
“This wasn’t a couple of bad apples getting carried away,” explains Hopkins’ attorney Bakari Sellers. “This was a complete failure from beginning to end. They were going to make my client pay one way or another and the system that was supposed to protect his safety and his rights either turned a blind eye or joined in.”

2 shootings reported in Greenville County in less than 12 hours
The Greenville County Sheriff s Office is investigating two shootings since Monday night, Lt. Ryan Flood said Tuesday morning. Investigators say the shootings are unrelated.
On Tuesday morning, deputies received a 911 hang-up call around 7:25 a.m. that came from Intown Suites on Mauldin Road, according to a press release from the Sheriff s Office. When deputies arrived, they located a man in the motel parking lot suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to Flood.
Preliminary reports indicated that the shooting followed an altercation, Flood said.
The victim was transported to the hospital, and no information on his condition was available from the Sheriff s Office as of 9:20 a.m. Tuesday.
