Herald Democrat Grayson County reported nine new COVID-19 related deaths Monday bringing the total county residents lost to the disease to 190. Because of the way the state of Texas is handling death certificates, it is not possible to easily ascertain when those people died or any other biographical information about them. In addition to the new deaths, the county released information showing the active case load in the county surged over the weekend just shy of 700 cases before falling back into the 350 range by Monday. A report released by the Grayson County Health Department and the GC Office of Emergency Management shows that on Friday, there were 93 new cases and an active case number of 513. On Saturday, there were 84 new cases and an active case number of 597. On Sunday, there were 94 new cases and the case load rose to 691. Initial COVID vaccine doses administered to Grayson Co healthcare workers

Then, Wednesday afternoon, the Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) announced the agency received its first doses of the vaccine, with Grayson County EMS employees and Dr. Joseph Lee among the first recipients. “We are excited to announce that (the) Grayson County Health Department received our first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and administered them today to local EMS employees, Dr. Joseph Lee, and a few health department employees,” the GCHD said. Health department officials reminded residents that the initial doses of the vaccine are earmarked for those most likely to come into close contact with coronavirus positive patients/people. “The first available vaccinations are required to be given to first responders and healthcare workers, and we will continue to administer those in the days to come,” the health department stated.

GCHD Director Josh Embry said Wednesday night that 12 new cases of the virus were confirmed between Tuesday and Wednesday, giving Grayson County 59 COVID-19 cases diagnosed since Friday. Over the last 11 days, the county has recorded 132 cases of the virus. The new cases increase the county’s COVID-19 victim count to 1,228 (one case per 22 residents). Embry said there have been 10 repeat infections where a resident contracted the virus once and then became reinfected.

Active COVID-19 cases soared on Sunday but dropped a little by Monday

Herald Democrat Grayson County s COVID-19 active case count reached a high of 659 on Sunday before falling back to 566 by Monday.  So far, 14 people in Grayson County have received a vaccine for the virus. A report released by the Grayson County Health Department and the Office of Emergency Management Monday evening said that the county reported 46 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and had an active case load of 616. Then on Sunday, the county learned of 43 new cases and had an active caseload of 659. On Monday, the county reported an active caseload of 566 with 121 new cases. The active case numbers weren t the only thing increasing over the weekend. The county reported three more COVID-19 related deaths on Monday bringing that number up to 148.

GCHD Director Josh Embry said 13 new cases of the virus have been confirmed since Monday, giving Grayson County 47 COVID-19 cases diagnosed since Friday. Over the last 10 days, the county has recorded 120 cases of the virus. The new cases increase the county’s COVID-19 victim count to 1,216 (one case per 22.4 residents). No new deaths were reported, leaving the county’s death toll to 35. As of Monday, 10 victims were hospitalized, with two people on ventilators. The health department said there are 90 active coronavirus cases, a decrease of five active case since Monday.
