McCoy, Lapic running unopposed in primary for Ambridge mayor nominations

AMBRIDGE Two men with a long history in Ambridge are seeking the borough’s four-year mayoral seat.  Former Ambridge Councilman Gerald “Duke” McCoy is running unopposed in the Democratic primary to face business owner Dennis Lapic, a historic preservation advocate running unopposed in the Republican primary.  One candidate will fill the seat left vacant by Ambridge Mayor David Drewnowski, who is not seeking re-election after four years in office.  McCoy, of 833 15th St., served as a borough council member for 16 years before forgoing a re-election campaign in 2019.  “After 16 years, I felt council wasn’t as concerned about Ambridge as I was, so I just gave it up,” he said. “But I didn t want to see someone get in there as mayor and do nothing about our town.”

How to vote in Beaver County s municipal primary

Thousands of Beaver Countians will head to the polls on Tuesday to decide which candidates will represent their party in November’s municipal election.  Registered voters can cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 18 at their designated polling place, and must return all mail-in and absentee ballots themselves to the Beaver County Courthouse by 8 p.m. Tuesday.  Residents are asked to wear face coverings and socially distance if voting at a polling station. Because Pennsylvania has a closed-primary system, only registered Democrats and Republicans will choose candidates this spring, although the county’s 15,000 third-party voters are eligible to vote on the state’s four ballot initiatives.

Casey touts Biden jobs plan at Beaver County town hall

CENTER TWP. U.S. Sen. Bob Casey stopped in Beaver County on Thursday to champion President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan and answer questions.  Fresh off a Pittsburgh-area tour with U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Casey, D-Scranton, shared how he believes the Biden administration’s multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure and social services bill could improve the region’s environment, economy and access to health care. It was the senator’s third visit to CCBC in three years.  Erin Gabriel, of Hanover Township, asked Casey how the jobs bill would improve access to home care and community-based services for older adults and people with disabilities.
