The Christian County Health Department reported more than 500 active COVID-19 cases as 2020 came to an end.
The Christian County Health Department New Year’s Eve report noted 42 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed the active case total in Christian County to 527. The majority of cases remained in the young adult-middle age category with 296. There were 134 cases in the older adult category, 80 cases in the pediatric age range, and 17 in the elderly category.
Overall Christian County has recorded 4,310 cases of COVID-19, with 3,726 recoveries, and 57 deaths.

Nearly 500 doses of the two-part Moderna vaccine have been distributed in Christian County among healthcare workers.
During the Christian County Health Department news conference Wednesday morning, spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney said they are following the distribution phases set forth by the CDC and state health officials.
She added they are wrapping up phase 1A and soon moving to 1B.
Sweeney noted they expect general public distribution to start rolling out in the summer months of 2021.
Beth McCraw, the chief nursing officer for Jennie Stuart Health, said they have distributed around 250 of their first shipment of the vaccine. She added the vaccine is highly recommended for front line workers but not required.
