She began her teaching career in 1994 at Trigg County Elementary School and would later teach at Millbrooke Elementary School. She also served many positions within the Christian County Public School system before becoming principal at Indian Hills Elementary in 2015. Oakley also serves as an adjunct teacher at Murray State University in the Elementary Education department. Oakley plans to spend more time with her daughter, Olivia.
