SEX ASSAULT: Accused teen referred to Scottish Children’s Reporter after their arrest by Kilwinning police A BOY charged with rape now faces a children’s hearing after a girl suffered a serious sexual assault in Kilwinning. The 14-year-old was arrested in connection with an attack on a girl aged 13 reported near Kilwinning railway station earlier in the year [January 28]. Police confirmed last week that the child – who cannot be identified for legal reasons due to his age – was later released by officers on an undertaking to face the charge in Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date. However, the Crown Office has since told the Times that prosecutors have now passed the accused’s case to the Scottish Children’s Reporter for a potential panel hearing or social work supervision.
AN IRVINE woman admitted a racist assault in an Irvine shop while high on blues. Rachel Hood, 38, admitted behaving in a racially-aggravated manner and assault in Irvine’s Thornhouse Stores on May 11 last year. The Clark Drive resident lashed out in the Thornhouse Avenue shop by shouting, swearing uttering threats of violence – after Hood denied an accusation of shoplifting. She also challenged people to fight and uttered racist remarks towards a woman in the shop before seizing her by the hair and pulling it. When she returned to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing last week [Tuesday, February 9], defence solicitor Peter Murray said his client was unemployed, on benefits and was taking Valium at the time after a family bereavement.
