Man, 70, charged after trying to hire detective posing as 14-year-old girl for sex, police say

A 70-year-old Lehigh County man was arrested after he attempted to hire a 14-year-old girl for sex with her and her 9-year-old sister but was actually communicating with an undercover Bethlehem police detective, court papers say.
James Jacob Derr, of the 5400 block of Hamilton Boulevard in Lower Macungie Township, was arraigned at 5:30 p.m. Friday before District Judge Robert Weber on two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, two counts of corruption of minors, two counts of promoting prostitution of a minor and a single count of criminal use of a cellphone, court records show. The charges are all felonies. Bail was set at $250,000 and Derr remained behind bars on Monday, records show.
