Michael Taylor’s partner Natalie Avery and her son, Carlin, 21, and her daughter, Amy, 14. Mike Taylor was Carlin s stepfather and Amy s father.
A Paeroa man shot dead by police was heard by a 111 operator saying “tell them to bring guns and shoot me, ‘cause I’m going to shoot first”. Shortly after saying that, Michael Taylor, 57, was dead after being shot four times by police on June 10, 2016 when he attacked the car they were sitting in with a machete and sickle. This was despite an officer who had dealt with him before not expecting violence and thinking his familiar face would calm Taylor down.

Douie got stuck up a large gum tree in Invercargill in 2018. Police tried to assist but the cat was too high, firefighters were called and managed to rescue the stressed cat. In July, a firefighter from the Hāwera Volunteer Fire Brigade and a box of cat biscuits lured a moggy down from a palm tree, where it had been stuck 5 metres up for two days.

Video footage shows a young person sitting on a post as police tried to clear crowds, before being kicked in the back by an advancing officer.
Inspector Dean Anderson, the Eastern Waikato area commander, said in a statement that the incident was not desirable, but sometimes force is required.
He said the person in the clip was warned several times but refused to move.
Anderson said it was lucky that police involved in the rioting were not seriously injured as young people threw bottles and damaged property.
Police needed to clear the area because a group of young people had been violent and disorderly, he said.
